Kim La Pierre heads the Ecosystem Conservation Lab at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, headquartered on Chesapeake Bay in Edgewater, Maryland. She studies the connections between communities and their environments, especially how they respond to global change and what could impact those responses. Kim received her Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale University, and her B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of California, Irvine. Before joining the Smithsonian in 2017, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Berkeley Initiative for Global Change Biology.
