The Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum seeks to preserve the history and spirit of mountaineering, to educate visitors on mountain culture and the sport of mountaineering, and to inspire in the modern climber a greater appreciation for climbing history.

Exhibits

View exhibits on the first American ascent of Mount Everest in 1963, a scale model of Mount Everest, a 10th Mountain Division exhibit, try hanging out in a portaledge, and enjoy special exhibits on Arlene Blum and the first all-women expedition to climb Denali, America's highest mountain.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
