A Victorian Treasure!

Visit Mr. Lapham’s whimsy! The unique 1885 Lapham-Patterson House was constructed in the Queen Anne style as the winter home of wealthy Chicago merchant Charles Lapham. Later, the home became the longtime residence of the Patterson family. The Lapham-Patterson House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Landmark.

Exhibits

Guided tours of the Lapham-Patterson House will also be available on the hour. Guests must present a physical Museum Day ticket or show the digital version on their device to receive free admission.

Guests of all ages are invited to complete a scavenger hunt of artifacts and architectural details found in and around the house!

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
