Located just off I-95, exit 83, the Lyman Allyn Art Museum features southeastern Connecticut’s most distinguished collection of American and European fine and decorative arts. In addition to our ever-changing exhibitions, the permanent galleries feature collections that celebrate Connecticut’s art history and the Tiffany family’s ties to the area. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic and explore our 12 acres of gardens and lawns, including the outdoor sculpture trail.

Exhibits

Sol LeWitt: Artist and Collector at Play>
On view through October 16
Eclectic rather than comprehensive or linear, this exhibition explores Sol LeWitt's artistic practice and the art of his friends and colleagues, focusing on collaboration, friendship, and humor. Objects on view come from the LeWitt Collection, regional loans, and the Lyman Allyn's own collection.

Album of Flowers | Interesting Times
On view through November 6
The large paintings that form the core of Catherine Christiano’s exhibition, Album of Flowers | Interesting Times chronicle a year, each month’s panel juxtaposing naturalistically painted seasonal flora with a collage of content from The New York Times. The still lifes are placed directly within the context of 2016, the emotionally charged election year during which the series was conceived.

Louis Comfort Tiffany in New London
Permanent Exhibit
Louis Comfort Tiffany in New London explores the rich and varied work of artist, craftsman, and designer Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933), examining the artist’s career, his many ties to southeastern Connecticut, and his enduring legacy in this region. Among the most creative and versatile American artists of his era, Tiffany is best known for his technical and stylistic innovations in glass. This Gilded Age permanent collection gallery includes stained-glass windows, lamps, favrile glass vessels, silver, jewelry, paintings, archival photographs, and other objects, some of which come from Tiffany family descendants.

American Perspectives
Permanent Exhibit
American Perspectives celebrates the arts of America from colonial times through the 20th century, often through the lens of Connecticut and specifically New London County. Exploring fine and decorative art through three centuries, American Perspectives highlights some of the Lyman Allyn’s finest works and most intriguing stories, bringing focus to the unique character of the region and its place in the wider world.
