The AKC Museum of the Dog at 40: And the Collectors Who Made It, opening September 14, 2022.

The exhibition surrounding the 40th anniversary, The AKC Museum of the Dog at 40: And the Collectors Who Made It, will bring into focus several of the collectors whose donations had a profound impact shaping the permanent collection and where it
stands today.

While the museum has made several moves over the years and enjoyed different spaces, it is the collection that is at its core. Per the original intention of the AKC Directors, over the years the permanent collection has grown to include over 1,700 objects encompassing a wide variety of media. It has benefitted greatly from the generosity of countless dog owners, breeders and handlers who have donated both collections and individual works of art.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
