USS KIDD Veterans Museum
305 South River Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70802 - United States
Step back in time aboard USS KIDD, the only Fletcher-class destroyer restored to her World War II configuration, and a National Historic Landmark. Berthed on the Mississippi River in downtown Baton Rouge, the ship is operated and maintained by the USS KIDD Veterans Museum. USS KIDD was named for Rear Admiral Isaac Campbell Kidd, killed aboard USS ARIZONA at Pearl Harbor. Her crew took Captain William Kidd as its mascot, painted an image of the legendary pirate on the ship’s smokestack and was authorized to fly a Jolly Roger. Learn about KIDD’s battle history, including a kamikaze attack in 1945 that took the lives of 38 crew members. The shoreside museum houses a collection of ship models, the Louisiana Veterans Hall of Honor, and additional artifacts and memorabilia of USS KIDD's service.
