This Video of Lightning in Slow Motion is Strangely Entrancing
Hypnotize yourself with lightning at 2,000 frames per second
Lightning doesn’t just look astonishing — it moves at an astonishing rate. In fact, writes KomoNews.com’s Steve Pool, the typical lightning bolt rips across the sky at a blinding 224,000 miles per hour and the human eye picks it up at the speed of light (670 million miles per hour).
Now, Sploid’s Casey Chan has tracked down a video that shows South Dakota lightning in glorious slow-mo. The result is fascinating, artistic — and still pretty darn fast, even captured at 2,000 frames per second.
