The morphing of a butterfly into a caterpillar has fascinated humans since we discovered this curious development strategy. Here, we can see the whole process—”from tiny egg to winged adult”—captured entirely on an iPhone 4S. Earth Touch, the production company behind the video, has a whole series filmed entirely on iPhones (aptly titled iPhone Films).
They’re not the only ones to recognize how good the video quality on phones has become. Nature photographer Kevin Russ works primarily with an iPhone, for instance. But there are limits to phone photography, as National Geographic photographer Cotton Coulson explains:
Also, avoid using the camera to shoot high-speed action, sports, and wildlife. Let’s face it, camera phones were never designed to compete with higher-end DSLR cameras. Use it for what it’s good for—capturing the details of your life. And don’t be afraid to get in close.
