Tuesday, January 19 and Wednesday, January 20: So, this week is off to a bit of a slow start as far as special events are concerned, but there is always plenty to do around the Smithsonian! Thursday, January 21: Richard Nixon and Elvis: Face to Face Portrait Talk

In this week's portrait talk, Jason Schultz, archivist at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, is on deck to talk about the meeting between President Richard Nixon and pop superstar Elvis Presley—an iconic odd couple if there ever was one! Free. National Portrait Gallery, 6:00-6:30 PM.

Friday, January 22: Sounds of Africa

Ideal for persons ages 6 and up, this program features Ugandan musician Daniel Ssuuna who will introduce you to a variety of African instruments, as well as teach you about the musical concepts of polyrhythm and syncopation. And better yet, it's a hands-on experience, so come out and try your hand at these instruments. Free. African Art Museum, 10:30-11:30 AM.
