Flag Day at the National Museum of American History
Jordan Shelton of Arvada, Colorado, winner of the National Museum of American History's O Say Can you Sing? YouTube National Anthem singing contest, will kick off the museum's Flag Day ceremonies at 10 AM today with her performance of the "Star-Spangled Banner." The museum will also be hosting a children's citizenship ceremony and the Fifes and Drums of York Town.
If you go, be sure to tour the flags on permanent display in the museum. There's the Star-Spangled Banner, of course, in a dramatic new display as of this past fall on the center of the second floor. And the national 34-star flag, the first Confederate national flag, the Eagle in Canton flag from the Indian Wars and a tattered American flag recovered from the World Trade Center are all included in "The Price of Freedom: Americans at War" exhibition on the east side of the third floor.
Happy Flag Day!
